1. HOW TO DIRNDL
Now there is plethora of Dirndl styes out there and you want to find the right one. They come in all sorts of materials, from cotton, to silk, to linen. The same counts for the colours, you can go for subtle to crazy, but dont go too crazy dont forget that the Oktoberfest is a traditional fest and once youve seen the beauty of the original dresses (Tracht), youll understand. Being as Im no board member in any Tracht association, I try to keep it as simple as possible. My Dirndl is from Trachten Angermaier, made from cotton and therefore very easy to wear and clean (it can get messy!).
EVERY DIRNDL HAS AN APRON. THE RULES ARE: BOW ON THE LEFT: SINGLE, BOW ON THE RIGHT: TAKEN, BOW IN THE MIDDLE: ITS COMPLICATED. LITTLE GIRLS, WIDOWS AND WAITRESSES USUALLY WEAR THE BOW ON THE BACK.
2. THE FIT CHALLENGE: HOW TO FIND THE PERFECT WIESN BRA
In Bavaria, especially during the Oktoberfest season (Oktoberfest is called Wiesn btw short for Theresienwiese, where the fest takes place), we say wood in front of the shed to describe what women mainly show off in their Wiesn outfit: boobs! Now keep in mind that the Wiesn can be a big challenge when it comes to the bra, which has to keep all that wood in place: you get squished on the underground and when youre queuing to get in to the tent, you have to drink from one litre mugs, dance on the beer benches, go on roller coasters. Triumph Intimates invited me along with a beautiful bunch of German fashion bloggers to take part in their Fit Challenge. And I can say: I found my perfect match the Amourette lingerie set. Never has my wood department felt better during Munichs fifth season! Speaking of wood: I admit that Triumph helped me adding a little to my woodpile.
3. OKTOBERFEST HAIR
As mentioned in my previous blog post about Wiesn dos dont get intimidated by the high-end creations some ladies show off at the Oktoberfest, they probably had it done by a professional hair stylist. I personally like easy and messy braids to dress down your Dirndl a little. You dont want to look like youre taking it too seriously, do you? And the hair gets messy anyway after the first Prosits. Detailed tutorial here.
